Bio

My name is Jasmine. I am 17 years old, and have far too little a life to write about – although, interestingly, this doesn't seem to hinder me in keeping a LiveJournal.

Due to my age, most of my life is taken up with school, and the mountains of work that go with A Level studies. You see, I'm one of these "determined" people (or so my psychologist tells me) who sets their heart on a goal and will do pretty much anything to achieve it. Seeing as this goal, at the moment, is attaining good enough grades to study Creative Writing at university, I'm sure you can see why I have a rather large lack of life.

The spare time I can scrounge from the oppressors, or the education system, as they are formally known, is mostly spent in Starbucks, reading, or shopping. I have a renewed post-Christmas addiction to the bookshop on Amazon, and unfortunately this looks set to worsen over time – I am quite sure my bookshelves are never going to live to forgive me for the amount of stress I’ve put them under. I am very much a fantasy geek when it comes to reading, although my favourite novel is definitely I Capture the Castle; which I consider to be slightly odd, seeing as I can’t stand chick-lit in general. I guess it just teaches you to be open minded, eh?

… Actually, open-mindedness is not one of my fortes. I do have the habit of sectioning people off into groups – for example, I consider chavs, emos, and most of the rest of my school to be total and utter idiots. However, that could just be unbiased perceptiveness, it’s rather hard to tell …

I don’t watch a lot of television, though I do make an exception for Scrubs, simply because it’s so well written (and, lets be frank, Zach Braff is lovely). To be honest, I’d much rather be exercising my not-so-inner literary geek, or indulge in becoming a culinary goddess – I am the official master of brownie baking.

Like every teenager, I also enjoy music, although I’m not one of these people that believes that mUsIc iZ lYkE mAh LyFe!!! In a way, I’m not that picky about what I listen to, and have no objection to the radio at all, although there are only a few bands that particularly engage me. These being: Stars, Norah Jones, Fiona Apple and the Autumns. I go through phases of listening to others frequently as well, mostly in cycles of seasons, to match my moods.

Personality wise, there appear to be two governing aspects to my mind: the strong-minded, sarcastic bitch who will, without doubt, let you know if you’ve pissed her off; and the girly, socialite who loves nothing more than a laugh. Strangely, they seem to mix fairly well, although it does mean I can get more than a little hypocritical, sometimes. I can be quite child-like and innocent in nature as well – I get in “moods” where I become stupidly inquisitive, resulting in pretty daft questions being asked, and more often than not, leaving me feeling rather ditzy. I also have the tendency to be incredibly tactless and not realise until afterwards, but I like to think it adds to my lovability factor.

… I am genuinely very lovable, despite the abysmal picture this may have fashioned in your mind. In reality, to get the most of me takes a long time. Such a short space in a “Bio” section doesn’t really do justice …

But I’ve finished excusing myself now. And if you liked what you read, then welcome to my life; but if not, then, well, it’s your loss.

“You always were wise beyond your years.”
“No I wasn’t. I used to be consciously naïve.”

~Simon/Cassandra, I Capture the Castle (film).

“What do you fear, lady?” he asked.
“A cage,” she said. “To stay behind bars, until use and old age accept them, and all chance of doing great deeds is gone beyond recall or desire.”

~ Aragorn/Eowyn, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

“That doesn't make sense to me. But, then again, you are very small.”
~ Treebeard, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (film).

“People are just bastard covered bastards with bastard filling.”
~ Dr Cox, Scrubs.
